HONOR AND EXCELLENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The University of the Philippines College of Engineering has always been steadfast in its mission of nurturing honorable and excellent engineers and future leaders and is committed to providing a safe environment for all its students despite the remote learning setup. With this, the College wants to remind all students that acts of misconduct and violations of the 2012 Code of Student Conduct of UP Diliman which include but are not limited to academic dishonesty and harm to other persons, will not be tolerated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The 2012 Code of Student Conduct of UP Diliman, which defines standards and norms for proper conduct of students, considers deviations to be acts of misconduct and violations of the code and will be subject to investigation and proper procedures also outlined in the code. The 2012 Code of Student Conduct of UP Diliman can be accessed in the following link: We would like to reiterate the following definitions of Intellectual dishonesty and harm to persons from the 2012 Code of Student Conduct of UP Diliman:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Intellectual dishonesty <\/strong>\u2013any fraudulent act performed by a student to achieve academic advantage or gain for oneself or others, including but not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n a. Plagiarism, defined as \u201cthe appropriation of another person\u2019s ideas, processes, results or words without giving appropriate credit\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n b. Fabrication, defined as \u201cmaking up data or results\u201d; falsification, or \u201cmanipulating research materials, equipment, or processes or changing or omitting data or results such that the research is not accurately represented in the research record\u201d; distortion and\/or destruction of data;<\/p>\n\n\n\n c. Copying or providing the means or accessing means to copy exam answers, homework, projects, laboratory experiments, term papers, etc.; possession and\/or use of cheat devices during an examination; allowing another person to take an examination in one\u2019s name, and\/or impersonating another student or allowing someone to impersonate oneself in an academic activity; and manipulating a corrected exam paper;<\/p>\n\n\n\n d. Submission of the same work in two or more courses without the instructors\u2019 consent; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n e. Other acts analogous to a, b, c, and\/or d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Harm to persons<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n a. Creating and\/or engaging in disorder, tumult, breach of peace, or serious disturbance such as, but not limited to, rumbles, within the University premises, resulting in harm to persons;<\/p>\n\n\n\n b. Attacking a person resulting in physical and\/or psychological injury;<\/p>\n\n\n\n c. Engaging in any of the acts described in R.A. 8049, otherwise known as the Anti-Hazing Law;<\/p>\n\n\n\n d. Accepting a student who has not completed a one-semester residency in UP Diliman for membership in a registered student organization, except in the case of a fraternity or sorority for which the residency requirement is one academic year;<\/p>\n\n\n\n e. Disrespect towards any person, which includes, but not limited to, insulting, discriminatory and\/or threatening behavior; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n f. All acts described in the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 (R.A. 7877) and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) approved by the Board of Regents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This year, three students from the College have been suspended for committing intellectual dishonesty and harm to persons. We hope that every one of us will work together in creating a safe learning environment that is aligned around our university’s values of honor, excellence, and compassion for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
